David "Bo" Bunnell

David "Bo" Bunnell is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability (University of Michigan) and a Research Fishery Biologist at the USGS Great Lakes Science Center since 2004. His work focuses on aquatic ecology, particularly trophic interactions between fish and prey, and the impacts of invasive species and climate change on Great Lakes ecosystems.

Bunnell's research spans three primary areas: food-web interactions in the Great Lakes (supported by US EPA), native fish restoration (supported by US EPA and Great Lakes Fishery Commission), and global inland fisheries (supported by USGS National Climate Adaptation Center). His studies emphasize larval fish dynamics, nutrient cycling, and climate-induced habitat changes. Recent publications highlight spatiotemporal variability in fish energetics, prey-predator linkages, and global fisheries yield estimation using novel techniques.

He collaborates extensively across the Great Lakes basin and co-leads projects with Drs. Yu-Chun Kao and Mark Rogers. His work addresses understudied aspects of inland fisheries' role in global food security and the ecological consequences of oligotrophication in freshwater systems.
